(Election 2009)
How long have you lived in Arvada?
I have lived in Arvada for over 7 years, my wife's family has been in Arvada for 5 generations. I am proud that my sons are the 6th generation. Since I have lived in Arvada I realize what a wonderful community it is, a great place to call home.
How have you been active in the Arvada community?
I have worked hard to make an impact on my communities children and what I am proud to call tomorrow’s leaders. I have been heavily involved with youth sports, financial and in-kind support from our toy store, as well as getting involved in multiple organizations such as the Ralston House, Children’s Hospital and Arvada’s Elementary Schools. We also encourage children to learn and explore through free events at our toy store.
What made you run for this seat?
I decided to run for City Council because I was concerned with the City’s need to evolve and how I believe it to be a little slow to react to the ever changing environment. I have observed opportunities where funds or services were slow in getting to critical functions of the city. I want to improve the safety and landscaping of our parks and sports complexes. Most importantly I believe the Community, visitors, tourists and our city employees should have an environment that we are proud to live, work and play in. A community that is truly “inclusive”.
What experience would you bring to city council?
I bring a thorough and in depth understanding of infrastructure experience, business development and, simply passion. I have an analytical and formative approach, when looking at business case development and funding. I am passionate in finding creative solutions to problems and/or opportunities. I have both corporate and local business experience that allows me to fully understand issues at both of these levels. Having this broad range of experience gives me the ability to relate to businesses that are interested in growing in Arvada, I see this as an opportunity to increase employment within our city.
What are some issues you hope to address if you are elected?
I want to improve Arvada by increasing employment opportunities, business growth and city infrastructure. I hope to address issues facing the new transit stations and their impacts as well as development and growth of the retail business sector. I will also place a strong focus on funding for maintenance & replacement of city infrastructure (e.g. water & sewer systems, streets, lighting, parks, sidewalks, playgrounds, etc.). Support and encourage City Departments to look at our communities and the citizens as customers which allow us to perfect the community experience. I believe these issues and a few more will have in impact on what I define as an “inclusive community”.
If elected, what projects do you plan on heading up?
I want to focus on three major issues.
First, I will focus on the development and growth of the Triangle shopping area while continuing the support & growth of Olde Town. I will be focusing on retaining existing business and fostering new ones.
Second focus will be on parks and sports complexes. Arvada has been a proud host of a National World Series within our ball parks, unfortunately Arvada received some negative feedback regarding the environment such as, the restrooms, lack of trees, play areas & dugout covers. I believe our community should have additional youth activity areas; pools, skate parks and play grounds, a place where children can grow and feel safe, building memories to will last a life time. Working closely with APEX Parks & Recreation will ensure that they receive the support they need to accomplish great achievements in the years to come.
Lastly, I want to focus on Transparent Government. Many of our fellow constituents want to see the finances of our city. We should have the ability to conveniently monitor and research the health of our city. Visit the City of Fort Collin's website on this subject "Open Book", click here.
I was born in El Paso, TX, in 1974. I moved to Denver in 1992, to attend college at Metro State College.
I soon found, a once in a lifetime opportunity, to be employed by TCI Cable as a type of outbound concierge to remote families and farmers with satellite TV. This is when I became very "in tuned" about doing a quality job and tending to customers' needs. I became passionate about retaining customers and doing what was right. I learned about Servant Leadership, Passion, Accountability & Integrity.
These values are my golden thread to everything I do personally and professionally.
If elected, I will continue to serve my fellow neighbors, visitors and the city with my core values.
I will bring a new and refreshing look into the local government with transparency, community suggestion and involvement. I am not afraid to ask why.
It is time for change in our local government. Arvada must move forward with more community involvement, retail sector growth, existing merchant and citizen support, improving the way we operate today with more efficient and collaborative agreements with inter-governmental partners.
And just listening to the people.
We need to improve our communities, and the way to do it is with Tax Revenues. To get Tax Revenues, we have to have merchants and restaurants. If we don't promote and support our local businesses, all of Arvada suffers!
It's a circle of life, if we do not have merchants and local businesses, then the city does not get the tax revenues. If we do not have revenue we cannot improve our city's infrastructure, parks and safety.
Join me and make a difference in tomorrow's future.
Always shop Arvada!
